PlaceCam Version 3 released

PlaceCam V3 is a completely new version of PlaceCam. It is not compatible with version 2 and all subscribers will have to upgrade. Your PlaceCam V2 client will remind you of that when you start it.

These are the major changes from version 2. Please note that version 3 is no longer compatible with version 2.

  • New design
  • New video sizes (240x160 pixels, 320x208 on popped out video)
  • Application sharing has been changed. The remote application is shown inside the collaboration tab. The video window of the user sharing the application moves to the left below your own video.
  • The chat box is always visible (not longer part of the video tab)
  • Names are displayed on the videos instead of email addresses changed
  • We now have HTTP-Proxy support for login
  • Video streams are encrypted with AES-256bit encryption for your security

PlaceCam scales easily to companies both large and small. Special video conferencing rooms in your offices can be a thing of the past. Placecam uses commonly available hardware so you rid yourself of the expense of dedicated video conferencing hardware. Your conferences can be held right from your users offices, either local or remote. Business travel expenses can be cut drastically!

If you are part of a small group or company for whom server-based video conferencing is just not cost effective, then PlaceCam V3, with its true
Peer-to-Peer like communication, is for you!

Press Release
MultiCast Video

For Immediate Release
Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada
Thursday, February 22, 2007

Saratoga Oceanic Development Group Inc. ( SODGI ) is a world leader in the development of peer-to-peer like video conferencing systems.

SODGI, Registered in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada with it’s head office in Halifax is pleased to announce that it’s founder and Chairman of the Board, Neil Rideout, has received approval of the following Published United States Patent Pending:

Multicast videoconferencing

20070005804 Class: 709246000 (USPTO)

The patent involves the invention of a technology to enable video conferencing over a variety of networks using a low bandwidth protocol. It also covers the ability to implement video conferencing among networked computers in a many-to-many relationship.

Rich Media Email Response (RMER.TM) is a part of the patent and is used to include video within the body of an email. RMER.TM. is not a new form of compression technology, but instead is a way of "reconstituting" the present information into a format that is more efficiently sized for transmission.

SODGI uses the term ‘Emulated Multicast’ to describe its technology and makes it available to the computing community through its flagship product, PlaceCam Version 3.

PlaceCam is a video conferencing product that allows up to 10 simultaneous videos to be displayed and up to 250 other users to take part in the same conference. A moderator can select whose videos are allowed to be displayed.

PlaceCam document sharing is very fast and uses compression of the data stream to display documents open on one machine to all participants. Control of the document can be passed to any other participant by the person who opens the document. Shared documents are essentially shared applications. Any application that can be opened on a client machine can be shared making PlaceCam document sharing much more powerful than normal video conferencing document sharing.

PlaceCam video conferences can be recorded, including not only the videos of the participants, but shared documents as well.

In addition, video conferences can be streamed to a web server and made available to any number of viewers while the conference is in progress.

PlaceCam is a cost-effective alternative to expensive server-based video conferencing system that uses proprietary equipment. PlaceCam conferences can be carried out with inexpensive webcams, speakers or headphones and microphones using the current patent published technology.
